I spent most of my life searching for a secret principle or even a special mentor who I thought would show me the way.
I was convinced there was a secret way to be successful and happy at whatever I was doing.
I have been fortunate over the past few years to meet many extremely successful world-class coaches.
In the early days, I tried hard to be like them. I tried to mimic them. I tried copying what they did figuring if it works for them, it must work for me.
It didn’t.
The more I tried to be like other people, the less authentic I became.
And it’s very hard to do something you love when you feel like a fraud.
It is very hard for people to be drawn to you when you aren’t being authentic.
For most of my life, I thought that if I could be more like other people well then I would be successful.
Thinking that would lead me to the life I craved for.
I was wrong.
Thankfully, I was savvy enough to slow down, take stock of my situation and think about who I am and what I truly wanted.
With fresh eyes, I was able to review the notes I took when spending time with some of the world’s very best coaches and I noticed something that I was blind to the first time around.
What had I missed?
It became apparent to me that none of them were trying to be anybody else.
As time went on, the more I focus on being myself, the more wonderful my life becomes and the more impact I have on the people around me.
Who knew that I had it the wrong way round for so long?!
So the moral of my story is…
Be YOU.
There is no one like YOU in the world. On this planet of roughly 6.5 billion people, you are a very, very scarce commodity.
The more “YOU” you become, the more you will draw the right people to you.
The more “YOU” you become, the more fun your life will be.
And the more “YOU” you become, the more your clients will pay you.
As Dolly Parton once said, figure out who you are and then do it on purpose 🙂
Have a great day
Andrew
